The mainstays in treatment of panic and anxiety disorders remain to be therapies and medications. However, this is not to say that treatment doesn’t exist outside these two. Anxiety remedies are available with alternative solutions, too. Below are some helpful recommendations:
St. John’s Wort
St. John’s wort, is perhaps, the most studied and most researched herb that is used in treatment of anxiety disorder symptoms. This plant that is native to North America, Europe, India, and China have been researched primarily for its antidepressant properties, although new research found that it is an effective treatment as well for anxiety and anxiety attacks. So far, there are at least 30 different studies on the properties of of the herb that may be useful for curing anxiety. Some of these studies have shown that St. John’s Wort has properties useful for treatment of mild forms of depression.
Extreme care should be practiced when using St. John’s wort, though, since it could interfere with prescription drugs and it can also become toxic when overused. Too much of this plant in the body could lead to the development of serotonin syndrome, a syndrome that is characterized by excess serotonin production. Note: Serotonin is a brain neurotransmitter that is instrumental in sending brain impulse from one neuron to another. Further, excessive use of this herb could cause eye damage.
To prevent compromising your body, it is not a bad idea to consult with your physician.
SAM-e
Short for S-adenosylmethionine, SAM-e is a naturally occurring cell in plants and animals that have been shown to help with the symptoms of different mood disorders. In theory, this treatment aims to replace the deficit in the production of SAM-e in the body. While suggestive, the data regarding the efficacy and long-term use of SAM-e is not conclusive.
Again, caution must be exercised when using SAM-e. Although definitely not a drug, SAM-e works like one inside the body. Like a drug, it could interact with prescription drugs like antidepressants and may cause serotonin in the brain to be overproduced.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Omega-3 fatty acids have long been studied for their efficacy in treatment of major or clinical depression. Growing evidence suggests that this oil can, indeed, have preventive effects on manic depression and is also very beneficial for clinical depression as well as other mood disorders. The best thing about these Omega-3 oils? These are known for harboring no side effect, whether mild or adverse.
Relaxation
People who are dealing with the symptoms of anxiety disorders are less capable of relaxing or remaining calm than their perfectly healthy counterparts. Relaxation techniques teach patients to control their symptoms by staying calm. Some techniques that do these as well as help improved mood and concentration are meditation, breathing exercises, guided imagery, yoga.
