Healthy Toddler Snack Tips

While it does not always take a minute for an adult to decide what he would have for snacks, toddlers certainly do not have that ability. Because of this, it is the parents who need to determine what the young tots would have. As a consequence, it is necessary for the parents to know enough about the dietary needs of the kids. The challenge is that while the snacks need to be nutritious, these also have to be delicious enough so that that the toddlers will enjoy eating it and, subsequently, absorb the minerals and vitamins.

If you are a parent yourself, you have to make sure that your cupboard contains healthy snack options. You will have to include stuffs that your toddler will enjoy every time you go to the grocery.

Fresh fruit – the basic must haves in fresh fruits are apples and bananas. You may also include pears, strawberries, melon, grapes, kiwi and mango for variety.

There is no argument over what apples can do to improve the health of a toddler. This fruit has a good amount of vitamins and nutrients, particularly vitamin A, which can improve the function of the digestive system. Apples can also do wonders for the toddler’s sight. Another plus factor that apples have is vitamin C, which enhances the immune system greatly.

Bananas – tasty and loaded with vitamins and minerals as well including: Vitamin A; Thiamine; Riboflavin; Niacin; and Phosphorus. A good source of fiber, bananas help your toddler stay full and satisfied. Its potassium richness also helps your toddler’s muscles and nerves function properly as well as maintain appropriate electrolyte balance. Bananas are quick energy booster for your toddler.

Fresh fruits may not be as easily found as dried ones though, especially if in the cold or winter season. Dried fruits may do as an alternative but you can choose the likes of raisins, apples, dried apricots, and cherries. These are usually easy to digest for toddlers like yours.

Cheese – these are a fun finger foods snack. String Cheese; Grated Cheese; Block Cheese that may be cut in fun and cute shapes with the help of cookie cutter molds; and Cottage Cheese with maybe a teaspoon of preserves or cut up fruits.

You will have to make sure that your toddler is hydrated well. However, you should avoid giving him fruit juices with high sugar content. You can give him milk or water to relieve him of his thirst.

Although snacks are not as important as the main meals of the day, you still have to ensure that these are healthy and nutritious. You should consider this as another opportunity for you to make sure that your toddler is always in the pink of health.
