By focusing on issues that impact a woman, her family and her employer(s) the Business and Professional Women’s Foundation has been creating successful workplaces for many years. Embracing and practicing diversity, equity and work life balance within a workplace is what makes the workplace successful. It has been through the collaboration of employees, employers and policy makers, which have been promoted by the Business and Professional Women’s Foundation, that positive systematic change has taken place within workplaces.
On July 16, 1919 the National Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs was established and the Business and Professional Women’s Foundation was the first organized club created within the Federation. In 1937 the Business and Professional Women’s Foundation became one of the first women’s organizations to endorse the Equal Rights Amendment.
The Equivalent Rights Amendment was aimed to promise that equal rights under any federal, state, or local law could not be deprived of on the account of sex. The Business and Expert Women’s Basis supported formation of women’s branches with the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II. In 1956 the they grew to become incorporated into the first basis that was dedicated to providing resources to and about working ladies. This basis included career development programs, research, information and other training opportunities.
Members of the Business and Professional Women’s Basis lobby members of Congress and also the Administration on their legislative problems at the Coverage and Action Convention in D.C.; this conference was formerly known as the Nationwide Legislative Conference.
In 1986 after San Francisco became the first city to approve a pay equity referendum, the foundation continued focusing on workplace issues and lobbied Congress to pass the Family and Medical Leave Act; the Act did not pass until 1993. By using their deeply rooted power, in 2005 the Business and Professional Women’s Foundation continued their Bureau of Labor and Statistics Working Women Series and were able to reinstate the Lifetime TV channel that was being aired on DISH Network programming.
The basis united with its sister organization BPW/USA in 2009 so they could continue working their legacy of supporting working ladies, their families, and their successful workplaces.
The Business and Professional Women’s Foundation also recognizes and greatly supports that because of the economy going “green” several new jobs have and still are becoming obtainable to both men and women. No matter what type of job openings turn out to be available the basis recommends ladies pursue these careers and the basis promotes that ladies choose career fields that are helping to meet America’s clean energy needs.
“Green” careers for ladies are being explored by the Business and Expert Women’s Foundation’s main project, which is the Moving from Red to Green: Working Women in the Inexperienced Economic system. Via this undertaking they are determining what programs and servces can help find these “green” careers for women and which ones will greatest suit their needs.
