Chemistry, Biology, and Physics are important concentrations. See if your local community college offers any classes you can take while in high school to help prepare you even more and during your summers volunteer at one of your local surgeons office to expose you to what you will be looking forward to after school.
Medical schools usually require a four year undergraduate program. If can be in any field but pre-med would be helpful. To get into medical school they usually require atleast a GPA of 3.0 or higher. You need to take the MCATS your junior year of high school and start applying then. Continue to volunteer or intern at local surgeons offices to continue that hands on work experience.
Now on to Medical School for four years. You will be mainly in the class room, concentrating on all your sciences, the first half of medical school and then on to clinical rotations you last half. You will be required to take the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) while in medical school. There are two parts. One will be taken in the second year and the second part your final year.
The fourth and final step is to complete your residency. During your residency, you will receive hands-on training from experienced doctors with the goal of mastering the six surgical core competencies: medical knowledge, patient care, professionalism, interpersonal and communication skills, practice-based learning and improvement, and systems-based practice. To finally complete your residency you have the choice of either following an Independent model or an integrated model. With the first independent model you will complete your first three years like other residencies with a deeper concentration your fourth and fifth year in your area of interest. With the Integrated model you will complete this program in five to six years with a required 24 month concentration in plastics training and final year requires you to hold chief residence position.

Not only are you able to be in a career field that you love and can help so many people you will enjoy the salary too.
