Making a toddler go to sleep can be a puzzling thing to do. At times, it can be exasperating and draining to bring the child to bed after working the whole day. So how do you make your child go to sleep without anymore arguments?
A parent doesn’t need to fight with the child when it happens especially during bedtime. Usually if a child doesn’t like to sleep yet, he/she will normally makes many excuses and will try to disobey the parent’s plea. He/she will always impose his/her appropriate time in sleeping.
The fact that the parent is the boss, and then he is always the boss. No need to argue with the child. Just stick to your rules.
During the battles, these kids are given the idea that they are someone who has the power to negotiate. Therefore, do not give in to the arguing. In fact, don’t argue at all.
As a parent, it is advised that you do not get into an argument with your child. When you start arguing with your child you are giving the child power over you. Thus, their constant arguing because they know somehow, they will be able to manipulate you into giving in. So when this happens, don’t argue. Don’t get mad. Be firm and take back your position as the leader of the pack.
When bedtime is approaching, you remind the toddler that in a few minutes he/she will be going to bed. At least 15 minutes before bedtime so that he/she can prepare, set his/her mind that he/she will be going to bed for the next few minutes.
It is also advisable to provide the child with early warnings prior to the actual time for the child to sleep. When the time comes, bring the child to sleep. Make it a habit to ask your child to go to the comfort room before slipping in the cradle. Some parents would read a story or two before sleeping.
Chances are when the child goes to bed, he/she might start negotiating to remain awake, but you should not mind him/her and leave him/her to sleep. Refrain from the temptation to argue with the child to sleep. Once you have set your mind, follow it through. This way your child will learn faster without getting confused on your instructions.
