Many of us have difficulty losing the weight that has crept up over the past years. Weight loss after having a baby can be even more challenging to take off.
Although the extra pounds can be stubborn, it’s important to be patient and try to stay motivated. You gained the baby weight for a reason and try not to be hard on yourself as you take it off, however slowly it may seem. Healthy weight loss doesn’t happen overnight.
You may want to try setting short-term, realistic goals for yourself. For example, try eliminating all sweets for one week. Or you may want commit to walking a mile every day.
By setting these short term goals you will find a sense of accomplishment and the will to keep going to complete your long term goal. Visuals such as a photo of yourself at your ideal weight or a dress you want to fit into will help you stay motivated. Be sure to keep them somewhere you will see them on a daily basis.
Those visuals should be where you can see them on a regular basis. Often people don’t achieve their goals because they don’t write them down or have a dramatic visual to remind them of what they will look like when they reach their goal weight. Just reminding yourself of your goals won’t always be enough.
Don’t use your recent pregnancy as an excuse to not take off the additional weight. Women everywhere have babies and most of them are able to lose the weight they gained during pregnancy.
It helps to make it less about appearance and more about health. When you reach your ideal weight you will feel good, have more confidence and improve your overall health.
Try seeing food just as sustenance and not as an experience. Divorce the sensuality and decadence from it. On your weight loss journey you will find that there are many foods that taste good and are healthy. You may find that yogurt and fresh strawberries drizzled with balsamic vinegar is as delicious as strawberry ice cream.
Congratulations on becoming a mother. Now take control of your weight and health so that you can spend time with your child and have the energy to enjoy it.
