Christmas is a time to celebrate, visit relatives, attend parties, and knock yourself out shopping for the perfect gift! Unfortunately, it’s also the time when most of us overlook our skin. This can be bad since the seasonal change can greatly affect our skin, causing dryness, cracking and bleeding. To keep your skin looking good during the cold season and to prevent winter dryness, here’s what to do:
Remember to bring a hydrating lip balm and hand moisturizer in your bag or purse. Use both as often as possible even if you don’t think the weather is cold. This will reduce skin cracking and bleeding and prevent greater damage to your skin. Baby oil is another option that you can use on your hands and other problem areas though this option can be messy as oil isn’t readily absorbed by the skin. Don’t use hand sanitizers with alcohol. Hand sanitizers rob the skin of moisture and can make things worse at winter. If you can’t wash your hands, go for an alcohol-free sanitizer instead.
The cold weather can also be tough on your hair and scalp, so take care of it during the winter season. The dry weather removes the scalp’s natural oils so make it a point to have regular, deep conditioning treatments at your favorite hair salon. This will keep your hair shiny and nourished in spite of the harsh weather.
Avoid long hot baths during this time since hot water will remove oil from your skin and make it dry. A warm bath or shower is better. While bathing, don’t scrub your skin with a loofah or scrub too often. This will bruise your skin, especially during winter. Don’t use exfoliating bath scrubs either. Instead, use moisturizing bath gels and scrubs to add in extra moisture to your skin.
To heal the skin from within, drink lots of water in winter to keep the former well hydrated. This helps increase skin elasticity and prevents premature aging. Also drink fruit juices since they nourish the skin and provide your body with vitamins and minerals that are needed by the skin. The weather may be cold but you can still keep skin looking great and avoid discomfort and damage with these practical tips.
