How To Stay In Shape When You Are Forced To Travel

Having to leave your familiar and predictable environment can really set you back in terms of progress. After all, something as simple as finding healthy food can be very hard when you are on the road.

Fortunately, there are many steps you can take to prevent your body from turning to mush.

So here are 6 strategies for maintaining your physique while on the road:

1. Train at least once a week: You need to train once or twice per week to maintain results. If you let more time go by you will have lost some progress. Having said that, even if you train just once every two weeks you can still retain the majority of your muscle mass.

2. Keep your meal frequency stable: You have to keep on eating every couple of hours no matter what. The only issue here is portion size and carbohydrate intake. If you are going to be very sedentary you have to decrease both caloric intake and carbohydrate intake.

3. Get some resistance bands: If you are going to an area where gyms aren’t readily accessible, heavy duty resistance bands can really help out here. In addition, resistance bands take up little space and don’t weigh that much.

4. Get a TRX: Suspension training is overhyped and I believe it shouldn’t be the core of your program. However, if you are on the road this can be a good option. After all, suspension trainers are very light weight and very portable.

5. Do total body workouts: You need to work all your big muscles when you are on the road. This is the only way to make sure you don’t lose muscle mass. Otherwise, your metabolism will begin to slow down big time. So do standard movements like presses, rows and squats.

6. Don’t expect to operate at the same intensity: Most likely, if you are traveling there will many additional stressors on your body. This means that you should adjust the loads in your workouts accordingly. And go at a pace that doesn’t put you at risk.

Being on the road doesn’t have to be a death sentence to your results. So take action on this advice next time you have to travel!
