Carbohydrates help you lose more fat because with carbs you can exercise much harder. And harder exercise translates into more calories burned.
Now right after an intense workout is a great time to fill up your muscles with carbs without any fat gain.
So here is how to get more carbs into your muscles after a workout:
1. Drain your muscles: You will need a very intense workout here to get the best effect. In the absence of complete muscle fatigue, it will be very hard to top off your muscle’s stores of carbs. So make sure you exercise with the highest levels of intensity.
2. Lose body fat: Ironically, the more body fat you lose the easier it is to stay in shape. This happens because as body fat decreases, insulin sensitivity increases. And the more insulin sensitive you are the more carbs get shuffled to active tissue instead of fat tissue.
3. Use supplemental carbs: You want to have carbs in supplement form right after your workout. This is the one time when your body will work best on a supply of fast digesting carbohydrates. Otherwise, stick to slow digesting carbs like beans and legumes.
4. Have protein with your liquid carbs: Now you only need a very small amount here. However, having some protein with your liquid carbs will enhance the absorption of said carbs within your muscles. More often than not, a supplement will be the most time effective source of protein.
5. Help insulin do its job: There are some natural food items and supplements what will help insulin get more carbs into your muscles. One supplement that has proven to be very effective is vanadyl sulfate. If you decide to supplement here, make sure you do it with your post workout shake.
6. Get high quality sleep: Interestingly, being sleep deprived can decrease your muscle’s ability to absorb carbs. So make sure you stick with a stable sleeping schedule. Even better, a stable sleeping schedule will increase your overall energy.
Getting more carbs into your muscles after a workout will enhance recovery, speed up fat loss and allow you to exercise harder the next time you are in the gym. So act on this advice sooner rather than later!
