Is Poor Post-Workout Carbohydrate Absorption Destroying Your Progress?

Getting a lot of carbs back into your muscles right after training will not only accelerate recovery, but it will also accelerate fat loss.

The main issue here, however, is that most folks do not know how to tweak their post-workout carbohydrate intake.

So here is what to do so that you get the best results from post-workout carbohydrate consumption:

1. Train to failure: You want to target all your muscle fibers and you want to completely drain your muscles of any stored carbohydrates. Doing this will stimulate them to absorb more carbohydrates after training which is exactly what you want.

2. Avoid an overemphasis on negative contractions: Now they do cause more muscle damage, but it comes at a price. You see, negative contractions also increase insulin resistance which makes it harder for carbs to enter your muscles.

3. Have a liquid meal with lots of carbs: You want to have this as soon as you stop exercising, don’t wait until you get home. And it’s best if you have fast digesting carbs in your meal such as dextrose or glucose. One more thing, keep in mind that your muscles are going to absorb these carbs, not your fat cells.

4. Have fast digesting protein with your liquid meal: A little fast digesting protein with your liquid meal can enhance the absorption of the carbs. The key here is to only have a little. If you have too much you will actually decrease absorption.

5. Have insulin mimickers with your liquid meal: Now this is really advanced here, but it works. As a starting point, I would recommend having cinnamon with your liquid meal. Then, if you want, you can add some alpha lipoic acid and vanadyl sulfate.

6. Eat a balanced meal after training: About half an hour after your shake, you want to have a balanced meal for best results. A balanced meal will top off your carbohydrate stores without causing excess fat storage. So don’t wait too long before eating after your workout.

Getting your body to absorb more carbs after exercise is a great way to accelerate your progress. Just make sure you take action here because without action you will get nowhere!
