Over the past ten years there have been countless studies and debts over saline vs. silicone breast implants by surgeons. When it comes right down to it, every breast plastic surgeon has his or her favourite. It is also a question of safety vs. aesthetics. Saline may be safer however silicone has a more natural look and feel as a cohesive gel breast implants.
Breast Implants from Saline:
New saline filled implants are made with a rubber shell that may be filled to the patients requested size. Some now have a valve emplace allowing for an increase or decrease in size depending on the clients wants.
Two types of saline breast implants are currently available at cosmetic breast clinics. The first and classic version is prefilled to a specific volume and size. The second and latest model is constructed with a valve and is filled before the patients eyes for the perfect size and shape, this also allows for future adjustments to be made. The breast surgery cost is the same for both.
Though complications can arise from these implants they are fewer and further between than silicone. There have been studies and cases where bacteria and mould have been found in the solution, putting the one with implants at risk should the implant leak or rupture. This can cause problem for the repertory system as well as number of nasty complication due to infection. Should a saline implant rupture it is much easier to detect than other implants.
Implants made from Silicone
The shell (outer layer) of silicone breast implants are made of a rubberized silicone. The implants are made and pre filled to a specific desired size. The implants come in a variety of textures, smoothness, outer shell (harder, softer, thickness etc.) and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Silicone implants unlike their saline counterparts are non adjustable.
Recently Silicone implants have been re approved in the USA stating: that there isnt enough definitive evidence that links silicone breast implants to breast cancers and neurological disorders. Never the less other research from around the world lists the following risks involved with having silicone implants:
As if the potential risks werent bad enough, after you have the implants, you must go for an MRI every year to see if there is a leak or rupture in the implants. With saline implants a leak is detect right away (as the breast deflates and the person can feel it), with silicone if it leaks or ruptures the silicone actually takes the shape around the breast tissue making it near to impossible to notice a change.
Every year owners of silicone breast must pay a few thousand to have an MRI to ensure there are no leaks or ruptures to the breast. Ruptures and leaks are nearly impossible to detect otherwise because the silicone molds the breast tissue around the implant, all the while seeping into the blood and tissue.
High level of platinum in silicon implants lead to short term memory loss and may lead to the loss of motor skills and has been linked to several neurological disorders.
Once a woman has had silicone breast surgery implants breast feeding isnt a good idea and worst, in several hundred cases the same toxins found in breast implants and the women have been found in the children of those women, even if they had them previously removed before pregnancy.Despite the fact that silicone implants have a more natural look, feel, and have a more cohesive gel breast implants, the rate of rupture is higher as is the rate of capsular contraction (a painful condition where a kind of scar tissue forms around the implant and hardens).
