Exercise too hard too frequently and your immune system will come crashing down. After all, too much stress in the form of exercise will prevent your immune system from regenerating.
Unfortunately, if you don’t get close to your body’s exercise limit you won’t get results.
So here is how to keep your immune system from crashing when exercising hard:
1. Avoid stressing over minutiae: Stress has a direct impact on your immune system, don’t assume that it stays in your head. Thus, a great way to allow your immune system to work at full capacity is to eliminate all the little stressors that are nagging away at your mental health.
2. Keep your diet as balanced as possible: A lack of balance in your diet is a rapid-fire way to destroy your immune system’s performance. Not only will eliminating food groups decrease your exercise capacity and recovery, but it will also keep your immunity forever suppressed.
3. Don’t skimp on sleep: Sleep is the most restorative and regenerative time period for the human body. If you aren’t getting high quality sleep every single system in your body will suffer, including your immune system. So make sure your sleep is at least seven hours without interruption.
4. Don’t lose too much too quickly: Losing weight at extremely rapid rates is extremely unhealthy. Not only will you destroy your metabolism, but you will also crash your immune system. So make sure you keep a slow weight loss pace that feels healthy.
5. Eat before and after exercise: Before exercise you want to have a small meal with some slow digesting carbohydrates. After exercise you want to have a liquid meal with fast digesting carbohydrates. Both of these strategies will reduce the impact of stress hormones.
6. Don’t train if you feel excessively tired: You are going to have to listen to your body here. If you feel more tired than usual do not push through it. Let your body rest or you could push your immune system over the edge.
The last thing you want is a suppressed immune system because you are exercising too hard and/or not resting enough. So take care of your body today so that you can get the results you want by tomorrow!
