It is debatable which is the most important organ in the body, the heart or the brain but clearly the brain is the most complex of all organs. The necessity of the heart is unquestionable even though it seems many don’t have one these days, however the fact remains that the heart like any other organ can be replaced just like the kidneys or your colon. The brain however cannot be replaced, it is the command center that rules over the entire body, regulating your heartbeat and doing that other simple job of controlling the entire central nervous system.
So why do so few of us actually do a mental workout? That should have been the most important topic to learn in school, I guess the curriculum folks missed the boat on that one. After all a significant amount of Americans go through extraordinary sacrifices to keep in top physical shape. Why not work out the most important organ in the body? Interestingly enough it is what controls all your eating habits, your mood, emotions etc.
Each day brings new information and insights into how the brain works. The brain controls entirely your whole life, so doesn’t it make sense to grab that control wheel. The brain sends millions of messages throughout your entire body in seconds, it contains itself over 100 billion neurons. Consider that outstanding number and then begin to see the endless possibilities of your potential. Take total control of how you use your brain, work it out to allow its maximum performance.
Mental Workout comes in a variety of forms. It can be as simple as listening to different style music or a different radio station. Also you could take the more scenic route on your way to work, waking up earlier will also give it a jolt. It would be highly beneficial and productive to begin a daily mental workout, in today’s high stress world, can you afford not to give your brain the most ideal conditions.
The easiest mental workout to begin with could be just listening to classical music. Just picture Mozart’s father, an accomplished composer himself. Imagine how much music the young Mozart absorbed while he was still in his mother’s womb. Those classical sound waves pierced right through and captivated the young fella. Until we develop another musical genius on the scale of Amadeus, then I would confirm classical music as the best. Just picture a young Mozart composing his concerto in D Major during recess while other kids are probably poking fun at him. Studies show that listening to Mozart can increase your creativity, boost your IQ and lower anxiety.
The universe is ever expanding, so should the quest for increasing knowledge be expanding. We must all be open to learning something new every day. You can grow new connections to your brain, you can discover new ways of solving problems, new ways about thinking about things. If you have fear of doing something, then learn to overcome it, take on the challenge and you will look back and be glad you tried it.
The brain is a complex organ, but one must treat it like a muscle in the body that can be worked out daily. However you wouldn’t just head to the gym and start lifting heavy weights straight away, one would gradually build enough strength to progress after time. The same case applies here, you want to warm up your brain and gradually grow in confidence as you begin to discover the huge potential possible.
There’s a daily mental workout for everybody no matter how complicated your chosen profession is. It’s important that we maximize the full potential of the complex machine that is the brain. Challenge yourself to learn something new every day, build new connections on a regular basis. Even though you are positive that you work your mind effectively at work already, consider the fact that in general most Americans tend to perform the same work duties every day for the most part whether they are in the penthouse suite or the mail room. It’s as if you were taking the same exact route to work every day, the brain becomes accustomed to the process and may tune out. The brain needs to be constantly stimulated to perform at its very best.
