Low Calorie Foods That Fill

Arguably the toughest part of following a low calorie diet plan is finding foods that will keep you feeling full in between meals. It’s tough to stay on a diet if you’re constantly starving.

There are certain types of foods, however, that are low in calorie and give you the “full” feeling. It’s these foods that will keep you from over eating and make it easier to lose weight by taking in fewer calories in a day than you burn.

But, before we get to these types of foods, make sure to avoid certain calorie-dense foods. For example, chips, crackers, cookies, and so on. It’s easy to eat a large amount of these calorie rich foods and they leave you feeling hungry again a short while later. Try to avoid these foods for weight loss and more so for health purposes.

Water-rich foods – Water-dense foods are low in calories but keep you feeling full. Some great examples of foods rich in water are veggies, fruits and soups. It’s crucial to fill up on these foods before you get to the calorie-rich main dish.

Fibrous foods – High fiber foods should be a large part of your daily diet. The health benefits of fiber are many, but for weight loss purposes it gives that full feeling longer by slowing gastric emptying, which keeps food in your stomach for a longer time.

Fruit – These nutritional powerhouses are packed with nutrients, fiber and are water-dense – all of which helps keep you feeling full. Plus, the fructose replaces liver glycogen which makes you feel less hungry.

Plenty of protein – This macronutrient is an extremely important part of your diet. It’s important for building muscle and evidence suggests that it beats out both carbs and fat in leaving you feeling full for an extended period of time.
