You don’t have to visit the salon all of the time in order to keep your hair fresh and healthy. In fact, some simple things to keep in mind will do a great job of keeping your hair nice between salon visits and you can even spend more time and less money on your own care before going to the experts.
Don’t Wash Your Hair Every Day
Many people shower every day under the belief that this is necessary to stay clean, but actually, you should only wash your hair about three times a week. Any more than that and you strip your hair of its essential oils and make it brittle, less healthy and less glossy. Quality counts, not quantity, so cut down on the hair washing and let your hair breathe on its own.
Reduce Perms/Dye Jobs
Permanent waves and dye jobs may be a nice change of pace, but they also damage your hair by drying it out. Instead of getting an expensive hair job done every month, cut it way back to once every six months or a year and enjoy your natural hair for a while. And when you are coloring your hair, try to use dyes that are made of organic materials and remember to pay attention to your conditioner or else the dye job will do more damage than good.
Watch Your Diet
Of course what you eat affects your hair. If you want to grow out longer, healthier hair or have short healthy hair, you have to watch what you eat. Make sure to have plenty of lean protein like fish and beans, vitamin E from things like nuts and avocados, Silica from raw oats and barley and yes fats from fish and pumpkins and some animal fat and plants. All of these things are necessary if you want to grow out healthy hair.
Having healthy hair is not rocket science; it’s mostly a matter of lifestyle. Take care of your hair by washing it regularly (but not all of the time), don’t put it under strain by using a lot of chemical products (or elastic bands or combing it when wet as this damages the hair) and by eating the right stuff. By doing these things (or not doing them as the case may be), you’ll find that you can spend more time out of the salon and still have hair that other women will be envious of.
