Protect Your Skin While You Are Young

The post-Baby Boomer generations have many distinct advantages over a lot of the people of that generation. One is learning from the mistakes of the older generation when it comes to taking care of the skin. Now we know that taking care of the skin starting at an early age doesn’t just keep skin healthy but helps us look as young as possible as long as possible.

There are a multitude of different lotions and creams and professional treatments that can help maintain youthful looking skin. While they may all work, there are only three things you need remember for a good foundation for healthy skin.

Keep the Skin Hydrated Perhaps the most important thing to healthy skin is keeping it hydrated. To do this, start with drinking plenty of water to hydrate the skin from the inside out. Next, be sure to use a good moisturizer daily over the entire body, but especially on the face, lips, and hands. A good moisturizer will contain ingredients like Omega-3, retinol and certain vitamins like C, E, A, K, and B. Hydrated skin stays supple and resists those undesirable wrinkles.

UV Ray Protection To avoid exposure to the damaging UV rays of the sun you should always apply at least a 15 SPF sunscreen before going out. Summer and winter sun can not only dry out the skin and cause wrinkles, but it can affect the skin’s pigmentation and create age spots. Severe sunburns and regular exposure can cause skin cancer as well.

Get Plenty of Vitamins and Mineral The body needs nutrients to remain healthy and vitamins and minerals are just as important for healthy skin. Vitamins C and E can repair already damaged skin, and those vitamins along with A, K and B complex are key components of healthy skin. Minerals like copper and zinc help restore elastin and control oil production. You can get these important nutrients in the creams and lotions you use, through diet, or by taking daily supplements that contain them.
