In this past week’s issue of the Journal Pediatrics, research was published that has determined a relationship between attention-deficit disorder in children in the United States and pesticides exposure. Children’s urine was tested for pesticide residue, and researchers found that kids with the highest levels of residue had greater chances of having ADHD, which is associated with disabilities in learning at school. Pesticides were detected in the urine of 94 percent of the 1,139 children tested.
It is not clear if the kids were exposed to the pesticides in environmental factors such as drinking water or air, or in the food that they eat. It was concluded that pesticides were present in the urine of 94% of the 1,139 children tested.
Prior studies have shown that a switch to organic vegetables and fruits lowers pesticide compounds levels in urine to the point where they are undetectable or close to undetectable levels. I believe that further studies should be done to completely prove causality and not just correlation with pesticide levels on fruits and vegetables that will push the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to lower the levels of pesticide that are expected to be present in all food.
Parents should remain aware of the risks that could be involved when they feed their children non filtered water and non organic produce.
Here at Purity Products, we have created our own Organic Brothers line of Certified Organic Triple Greens and Organic Reds Formula because of our concern for this very issue. We can assure our customers that our products, such as Reds and Triple Greens Drinks, are organic because they are certified organic by the USDA and OAI. I love when my kids drink these powered drinks because I know that they are pure and contaminant free, as provide so many benefits. In addition, many other of our powered drinks contain beneficial organic ingredients even though they are not certified organic.
The harsh reality of the matter is that we are all exposed to pesticides on some level, so I always do my best to purchase as many organic food products as I can, so that I can be sure my kids have very little exposure to pesticides. We should all be conscious of this, and do as much as possible to make sure our children have little exposure to pesticides since they are more susceptible due to their growing bodies and relative size.
