Sensitive Skin Products Review

Looking after sensitive skin is governed by a few basic rules but before we delve into the rules for sensitive skin care, it’s important to understand what a sensitive skin is. Well sensitive skin is one which is unable to tolerate any unfavorable conditions like the environment for example, and which easily gets irritated on contact with foreign materials including skin care products. If the skin does become hyper-sensitized in this way, special products that are able to be applied called sensitive skin care products have to be used.

Skin care products that help with this condition differ as there can be many factors involved as it is not a one-glove-fits-all condition. One thing that is almost constant though is the way sensitive skin will almost always react badly to any type of detergent and any products where the formulation is chemical based.

But the damage starts generally beyond a defined threshold or tolerance level. Where a person has skin sensitivity this will obviously become apparent more quickly than someone who does not share this type of skin condition.

The difference with sensitive skin care to ordinary skin care products is the concentration of known irritants is kept to an absolute minimum or eliminated from the product completely. Sensitive skin care products of any type are usually marked as such but if you have very specific concerns then check the side of the container or list of instructions to see if there is anything you should know about.

The rule of thumb here is, if you are unsure what to choose, purchase the ones with the least chemicals (if any), colorings or additives in them. Do not use toners if at all possible as most of them are alcohol based and will probably cause further irritation so are not recommended for sensitive skin.

Wear protective gloves when doing laundry or other chemical based cleaning and if you are allergic to rubber, you can wear cotton gloves below the rubber ones. Another situation that causes a problem for sensitive skin is the sun so if you intend to go out in strong sunlight, you will need to apply a special sunscreen.

This type of precaution is also relevant even if it isn’t sunny as the atmospheric pollution found almost everywhere now will also aggravate the skin and a suitable barrier cream or hypoallergenic moisturizer should help protect vulnerable skin. Use soap-free and alcohol free cleansers and cleanse your face whenever you return from spending time out doors but do not scrub or exfoliate too hard as it can cause reddishness and even inflammation.

Whenever makeup or cosmetics are used, try not to overuse or over wear them and only use makeup remover which will not cause skin irritation. Although it can be frustrating having sensitive skin, it is not the end of the world and with a little forethought it can be something that it is possible to live with day to day without too much inconvenience.
