Should You Be Concerned About Hypnotherapy?

There are so many different approaches towards helping you deal with psychological issues, that you may wonder which is the best one for you. Hypnotherapy is an incredibly popular therapeutic approach simply because it is a natural and effective method that can help you deal with your stresses and anxieties. If you’re worried about the potential dangers and asking yourself if this is something suited to you, then I hope to answer some of those questions.

The Greek God of Sleep

Hypnosis and sleep are not the same thing, although historically the two have appeared to go hand-in-hand. The reason for this is is that the word “hypnosis” is derived from the word “hypnos”, the Greek god of sleep. This was a term first started by James Braid (a Scottish surgeon) because of the sleep like appearance of his subjects. Upon realising his error he did try to change the name to “mono-ideation” but the name had stuck and to this day continues to be called hypnosis.

Is it dangerous?

Many of our concerns stem from our experience of stage hypnosis and other performances on TV. Typically the people on stage carry out often bizarre behaviours such as clucking like chickens or popping up like toasters. The hypnotist will appear as if they have an almost Svengali like control over his or her subjects.

If these are one of your concerns, then I appreciate it, but you can take some comfort knowing that it is actually you who has control and cannot be forced into hypnosis. Stage acts and clinical hypnosis are used for two completely different purposes and a competent hypnotherapist will be able to skillfully use their expertise to help you achieve your goals and much of the time, you experience a real sense of deep relaxation while in trance.

Hypnotherapy: a powerful therapeutic approach

Hypnotherapy is an incredibly effective way to reduce anxiety. When you enter into a state of trance, you are more open to suggestions and those suggestions that are accepted by the subconscious mind can help you overcome a range of issues including; phobias, sleep disorder, grief, stress, fears, panic attacks, depression and much more.

Harnessing the power of hypnosis with therapy, creates a very effective approach to help deal with those issues in your life. Your beliefs and attitudes are stored in the subconscious mind and hypnotherapy can provide a platform that can help you to communicate with the subconscious and create change.

Hypnotherapy is safe, powerful and been proven to effectively help with so many different issues, forms of neurosis, that any hypnotherapist worth his/her salt should be able to provide you at least some reprieve from your worries and concerns and help get your life back on track.
