Bipolar disorder which is also known as manic-depressive disorder is one of the toughest types of depression to diagnose. The symptoms are very similar to those of depression although they vary greatly.

If someone is suffering from bipolar disorder, you’d see frequent changes in their moods and energy levels. They would go from a depressed state to a highly energetic one all of a sudden. Or, vice-versa.

Lots of people even do manic things such as go on a buying spree and spend lots of money without any reason. Other people might feel doing something which is totally unnecessary. Some start feeling high and dreaming big. And, suddenly, everything goes back to the normal stage.

A few people get bipolar disorder at a very early age. Quite a few of these cases are genetic. If your family has a history of OCD, it’s very highly probably that yours is a genetic one, too. Though it’s not really easy to diagnose, here are some symptoms that will help you spot bipolar disorder:

Sudden increase in energy levels: If the person has been depressed for a long time and suddenly gets highly excited, it’s one of the bipolar disorder symptoms!

Things that were previously exciting are no longer exciting: The person used to get excited watching a certain movie, or playing a certain game. Those things bore them today. They despise their hobbies and are always dull.

If the person doesn’t feel like sleeping, can’t sleep; that might signal towards bipolar disorder symptoms too! When the person suffers from mania and depression simultaneously, its called mixed bipolar state. That is, he might go on an unusual spending spree and get back to home very dull and depressed.

If one is having morbid thoughts, it’s almost a sure bipolar disorder symptom. If you know someone having morbid thoughts, call 911 as soon as possible and get proper treatment.

So, how can one cure bipolar disorder? Frankly, there are many solutions. Some of them include mood stabilizers, antipsychotics and antidepressants.
