Everyone wants to get fit and improve their health. That’s why they join the gym. The first few days and weeks are filled with enthusiastic workouts and healthy eating habits. Then something happens, you miss a session and then another. Quickly all the good intentions are forgotten and you are back to the old routine. It happens time and time again and is the main reason why gyms are wealthy and empty!
Eating the right food is the second pillar in any health and fitness routine. Proper nutrition can make a massive difference to your progress and will influence the way you feel and your energy levels. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that as long as you are excising regularly then you can eat whatever you like. The people who see the best results combine nutrition and exercise for the most effective fitness program.
There’s more than one piece of equipment at the gym. But to look at how most people work out you would have thought that you could design a gym and fill it with running machines and everyone would be happy. Try to learn something new and pickup some tips on how to use the other equipment. Don’t get stuck into the same routine or your body will become accustomed to it and you will stop making progress.
Have you noticed that most of the time gym members are not working that hard? They don’t appear to be sweating? Many will be watching the HD TVs or even reading a newspaper. In order to get fit, you need to push your body beyond its normal comfortable limit. You need to sweat and you can’t do that whilst watching the news. Push yourself harder, you will find that you can achieve more in a shorter time period.
Unless you know where you are going how do you know if you have got there? It is a common mistake to start out without a clear idea of you fitness targets. Write things down. Are you trying to lose weight? How much, how quickly?
Don’t fall into the mistake of having only one thing to aim for. Have a set of targets that you can achieve in the short, middle and long term. The short term goals are particularly important so that you can feel that you are on the right track and motivation is the key to success. Many people will drop out if they feel that their end point is too far away, set a simple task at the start and make sure you hit it.
Finally remember your diet. Incorporate a food plan in from the start and try to keep track of what you eat, when you eat and how much. Writing things down helps you focus on what is important and highlights problem areas.
