The quality of your six pack workout can make or break your quest for stunning abs. This workout is not about what you think it is though. Finally, you can stop wasting your efforts and start getting the abs you want.
The first priority of your six pack workout must be to burn calories. A high body fat percentage is the leading reason that someone doesn’t have six pack abs. Rarely is it about lack of muscle mass.
Your heart should be beating rapidly in your workout. If it isn’t, you need to change something. To do this, you’ll want to raise the energy expenditure in a given time period. So you can either decrease the time it takes for completing the same work, or raise the pace you are doing it. These are not necessarily the same due to cool-downs. If you aren’t dripping rivers of sweat by the end of your work out, slap yourself across the face, go back, and do it right.
Secondly, the actual abdominal exercises should be focused around muscle maintenance (possibly muscle gain depending on a number of factors). You should be in the low to mid rep range. If you’re doing more than 20 reps of anything at a time, that is for muscle endurance which does you no good at all. If what you’re doing isn’t enough of a challenge, add weight to it. If the name of the ab exercise has the word reverse in it, or is otherwise meant to target the lower abs, it means holding the weight between your feet. For the other ab work of your six pack workout you may choose from holding the weight on your chest, behind your head, or over your head.
Lack of consistency is the last flaw. What I am referring to is the constant frequency of your six pack workouts. Three times or more per week is what you ought to be aiming for.
If you do not maintain some sort of schedule like this, you will never gain any momentum. It may also shift your calorie balance from a deficit to a surplus, especially if you are only working out a few times a week. Missing or putting off a workout every once in a while wouldn’t be so bad if that’s all it was, but normally its missing “just one” that causes you to gradually stop altogether.
