Skin Tanning For Wise People

Skin tanning is in vogue these days because many people associate a tan with sex appeal. Many associate a tan look with health, youth, and vitality. But there is the right way and the wrong way to get a tan.

The improper way to get a tan is to first get sunburned. A sunburn means that the skin has been permanently damaged. The sunburn must be avoided at all costs. The sunburn also increases the incidence of skin cancer.

A sunburn increases the chance of skin cancer. So it is wise to use sun block when outside. Some think that sun block will prevent a tan. But this is not the case.

There is no product in existence that will completely block the effects of the sun on skin. In fact, sun block can help many have a more even, longer lasting tan. Some choose not to shave before using sun block because they feel the block can irritate skin after shaving.

Some choose not to use sun block in the winter. They assume that the sun is not as damaging in the winter time. This is not always the case though. In some areas sun rays are just as strong as during the summer. In the winter the sun is actually closer to the earth than in the summer. The summer is hotter because of the earth’s angle with the sun, not because it is closer.

The safest time to go out is before noon and after four in the afternoon. The temperature is hottest, and the sun can be the most damaging to the skin between noon and four.

No one wants to tan his or head. It is a good practice to always wear a hat when outside. The sun can cause dizziness which could lead to a heat stroke which can become a serious medical condition.

It was not until around 1920, that sun tans became popular. Before then, sun tans were a sign of the lower class. Only people who worked outside, or on the farm, had a tan.

In a sense, skin that was not tanned was popular. But then a famous socialite was seen in a photograph lounging on her yacht getting a tan. Since then, the tan is associated with the upper class.

Since then, people have wanted to have a sun tan. But people have to remember to get the tan without the damage. They can avoid the damage by following a few skin health rules.

Given proper methods, skin tanning can be safe and provide needed reserves of Vitamin D in your body. Skin brightening techniques are easily practiced in homes or salons.
