Anxiety and its next step, panic attacks, are very common. Everyone has anxiety from time to time, but not all have the kind that leads to panic and then to debilitation. You could be one of the many that have experienced the kind of panic that completely makes you non-functioning.
Imagine not even being able to get out of bed in the morning because of the onset of a panic attack and the overwhelming fear associated with it. You shake uncontrollably because of fear. Sometimes you don’t even know why. In spite of the panic you force yourself to get up, get dressed and go to work. It is not pleasant and you think you are going to die. This kind of panic is also associated with things such as flying, fear of heights or getting up in front of a crowd to give a speech.
Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress. If you are healthy and can deal with stress, anxiety can help you perform better, study harder or focus upon important events. It is when the reaction becomes so overwhelming that panic sets in and normal tasks become enormous and difficult challenges.
Panic attacks become a surge of overwhelming fear that emerges without warning or reason. They are many more times intense than mere anxiety. Studies have shown that one of every 75 will experience some degree of panic in their life.
Multiple and sustained panic attacks can become debilitating. One must seek treatment if one wants to overcome the problem. The fear becomes so disabling that the victim cannot work or carry on normal relationships. It is comforting to know however, that panic attacks are not dangerous even though they can scare the living daylights out of you.
My wife has experienced the debilitating kind of panic together with long periods of depression. We have sought medical attention for which there are several prescription drugs that have helped. These drugs have slowed her down so much that the side affect is almost as bad as the panic. I do not think this is the solution to the problem.
In our search to find something that will work without drug therapy, we came across something interesting. Although there are many programs out there that teach you how to cope with anxiety and panic attacks, there are not many that show you how to overcome the problem entirely. If a method existed to show you how to overcome your fears of panic without the necessity of drugs, what would you do?
