If you’re looking to lose some weight like a lot of people are these days, it’s definitely not going to be a picnic. It can be tough trying to get in the habit of eating healthy, especially if you are not sufficiently motivated.
If however you are motivated and you’re just wondering what the next steps are, here are a few things that will help you to shed those pounds so you can start looking better:
Lift Weights
A lot of people don’t realize it, but lifting heavy weights can actually aid your weight loss. The more muscle you build, the more effort it will take your body to maintain that muscle and thus the more calories you’ll burn while at rest. Actually performing the weight lifting burns calories as well and the more muscle you have, the better you will look.
Do Some Running
Of course in addition to weights, you have to make sure you exercise some. You need to burn off more calories than you use while at rest. When you get into a caloric deficit, you will lose weight. It’s easier to get into this deficit when you exercise more so make sure you do 30 to 45 minutes of cardio at least 3 times a week.
If you hit a weight loss barrier, you can always increase the length of the cardio sessions or increase the days in which you engage in cardio as well. You always want to do your cardio after your weight training though because otherwise, you’ll be too tired to lift weights.
Eat Well
Now when I say eat well, I mean you’ve got to eat complex carbohydrates, lean protein and healthy fats. You can’t only do this though, you have to eat them in the right portions and you must make sure you’re in a caloric deficit as well.
As a woman, try limiting your caloric intake to 1200 calories a day, as a guy, you can make that slightly higher, around 1500. You’ll need to be eating foods such as oatmeal, brown rice, brown bread, whole wheat pasta, chicken, fish and nuts.
