When it’s time to have a drink it’s time to have a drink. The problem with that though is that many drinks are just plain not good for you. Never mind if you’re on a diet plan and trying to lose weight these 5 are the cream of the crop when it comes to calories, sugar, and just plain old bad stuff you don’t want to have floating around inside you.
These five wretched drinks are usually the ones that tend to affect people negatively almost all the time. They usually help to create large swings between someone’s blood sugar levels and can leave you feeling like a diabetic in a coma. They also almost always leave the unsuspecting drinker with a massive hangover and headache, one that is not easily forgotten. Another important factor to consider is that all the drinks in this article tend to be ones that are very popular and are usually consumed socially, so you need to be ready to learn what they are so as to avoid them.
To begin things let us start off with the most serious offender the long island ice tea. Long Island ice tea is neither a tea nor from Long Island. This drink does not contain antioxidants or have any herbal medicinal purpose, rather is a blend of different liquors as well as sweet and sour mix with a dash of Coca-Cola. What makes this such a notorious offender is that it is passed off as something that it is not, and contains just about every ingredient you need to avoid in a drink especially when you’re watching your weight and trying to stay healthy.
Next up would be the newcomer on the street, the red bull and vodka. It seems to have made waves with young and old alike. Perhaps it’s the fancy cars driving around with a giant red bull can on top or maybe it’s the annual red bull flugtag that seems to send everyone into a tizzy. Whatever it is, whoever decided to put together red bull and vodka deserves to win the world’s worst combination of drinks award.
I say this because only the supercharged college age drunk who desires nothing more than the worst hangover in the morning or the inability to sleep is really who’s right for this particular drink. Granted there is a positive side to this drink which is when you drink them you’re so stupidly energized you might bounce off the walls enough for hours to burn a few of those ridiculous amount of calories you just ingested.
This next cocktail is an unfortunate addition to our list seeing as it is a personal favorite of mine. The mighty Jack and Coke seems to be a staple drink among bars and those that frequent them in the states. However it probably goes without saying that Jack by itself on the rocks isn’t too bad but splash in a little coke to the mix and you create a whole lot of trouble. The good news is that with this particular drink the trouble usually doesn’t end with just a few extra calories but sometimes turns into a pretty serious brawl outside. Which in this case might actually be positive since it will more than likely help expel some of those calories you just ingested.
The fourth worst offender on our list is the stereo typical pool bar frozen drink the Pina colada. Not only does his baby have tons of calories and sugars it actually also has lots of fat and lends itself to a massive hangover as well. What you end up with is an alcoholic milkshake that rivals the caloric value of any shake from steak and shake. You might be better off ordering a double cheeseburger with fries from the pool bar over a Pina colada.
Last on the list but certainly not least of the worst cocktail offenders is another tropical resort destination favorite called the scorpion. This little Devil seems to be a favorite especially when a tropical themed pool party is in full force. If your unaware of what a scorpion is just think giant fishbowl shaped glass with all kinds of sugary-based alcohol’s and then adding in about every type of sugary-based juice. There’s really not much worse than throwing together a bunch of different liquors together except when you add in a bunch of different sugary juices not to mention adding six straws and letting everybody have at it. A couple of these bad boys and you’ll end up wondering where the party went because your face down praying to the porcelain god.
A well-prepared and proactive person who has their defenses up before the party or vacation begins will prevent disaster from happening. These 5 calorie and sugar rich cocktails are definitely the ones that need to be avoided at all times. Staying from these drinks and not making stupid health decisions will help you stay on track and protect you from taking several steps backwards in regards to all the weight-loss and fitness progress you’ve made so far.
