We live in an age when a person is going to at least consider trying to get them in shape. The problem is that for many of us, the process seldom gets past the though stage. One of the things that cause us to get discouraged is the high price of a gym membership. However, if you were to remember the importance of jogging in an exercise regime, you would realize that you could get fit and not have to spend more than the cost of a decent pair of shoes.
When a person is trying to get healthy they seem to have a habit of focusing on one aspect of a fitness routine. They seldom see the big picture. The best workout routines are ones that combine several different activities. For example a person should do strength training one day, yoga the next, and jog on the third.
The reason that jogging has been a part of people’s fitness routine for so long is because it works. Jogging burns more calories and improves an individual’s circularity system better than walking, yet it does not exhaust them like running does. Best of all it is something that can be done anywhere.
A person should not just hit the road and start jogging. Before they go run they need to think about things that they can do to avoid getting injured. One of those things is thinking about when they are jogging.
When the weather is cooler it is fine to jog at anytime of the day, however if the day is hot it is best to run when the sun is either rising or setting. Since visibility is questionable during this time it is important that the person wear reflective clothing and to carry some type of light. The closer to traffic that your route takes you, the more important it is that oncoming cars can see you.
Everyone knows that you need to hydrate before you work out. What you should not do is drink a whole bunch of water right before you start the run. This is a really good way to develop cramps halfway through your routine. It is far better to drink water consistently throughout the day. While you are exercising keep a water bottle close at hand and sip from it whenever you get thirsty.
The worse thing a person can do is go from not working out at all to running a really long distance. Even if they are somehow able to avoid injuring themselves, the next day their muscles are going to be so stiff they will hardly be able to move. The smart thing to do is to start with a short distance, take plenty of walk breaks, and slowly increase the time that you jog.
While there is no denying the importance of jogging in an exercise regime, it does have some side effects. One of the downsides to running is that the short stride does put quite a bit of strain on the joints. Listen to your body, if things are starting to feel sore, take sometime of and make an appointment with your doctor and have them check you out. In the meantime try power walking which is not the same thing but is still better than nothing.
