The Importance Of Training For Long Distance Running

If you have made the decision to run a marathon or any other form of long distance running, it is always important to train.

It can’t be run successfully by just anyone who isn’t prepared. You have to put into consideration the right clothing and shoes which are so important to get your body ready for the intense workout of a long distance run.

While training for a long distance run, you should be able to give yourself enough months worth of preparation to put yourself in the right position for the big event. Training should consist of some easy runs, long runs, rest and speed runs.

Increase your distance every week by starting with short runs to build up endurance and prepare you for the distance of a half marathon. This applies if you are a novice runner.

You should also build stamina as well as endurance by running a faster pace than normal in short bursts that get longer and longer as the weeks go by. Training every other day is important including tactics like uphill running to build your body in a more physical state.

To strengthen your muscles for running does require enough rest so that it can rebuild and relax between days when possible. The best schedule is to rest on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and leave Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays open for running and exercise.

You will run between 19-21 miles over the course of the week. This can be done at the start from which you can work up to 32-34 miles in an 8-week period.

With the end of the 8 weeks, you should have been able to run more than a half marathon with so much ease due to the good preparation. If you feel that you may need more than 8 weeks to train, then make it 16 weeks by doubling up on the amount of time which will increase the work out’s difficulty.
