You can’t keep a baby healthy if you are not yourself also healthy. That’s the word from some people. They feel that it is vital for a mother to take explicit care of her own health as a means to making herself and her baby be in the best possible physical and mental space possible for them to be safe. That means adequate nutrition in order to have the energy required of a newborn.
Salmon may be the best food for new moms. It contains a chemical compound known as DHA, which is a part of a family of compounds called omega-3 fatty acids.
Vision and brain development are two aspects that are greatly improved by the absorption of DHA compounds. These are already contained by breast milk, but baby can get even more from mom.
Baby also need calcium and vitamin D. Both of these are conveniently found in milk, cheese, yogurt and other dairy products. But mom needs to eat enough of these to pass on to her newborn via breast milk. Mom also needs enough to maintain herself.
Developing bodies also need things like protein, iron and vitamin B12, which, just coincidentally, are contained in one food in particular, which is known as beef. Beef is great, and you can get it in low-fat varieties if that is something that you worry about.
If you want an immune system boost, new mothers should eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Dark colored fruits provide an extra boost of benefits in that they are often high in antioxidants, known to fight cancer-causing cells, and vitamin C, which is just generally good for you anyway. Veggies are also vital for the variety of nutrients they provide.
Beans and grains are great. New moms should eat lots of both. Beans are high in fiber. Beans are also high in protein. Both are necessary for things to work right. Grains are like wheat and cereals. These are also high in stuff. Stuff like folic acid.
