So, you’ve resolved it’s the best time you get started losing a bit of weight, and that working out frequently would be a good place to start. If you haven’t worked out in a long time, or never, you may not have any idea how to get going. It probably seems somewhat daunting. Fortunately, it’s not that confusing or hard to do – just start walking. You need to make walking a huge component of your exercise plan.

You’ll be surprised how easy it is to squeeze walking into your exercise regimen. If you own a dog then take your dog for a walk around the block for at least ten minutes. 10 minutes may not seem like a long time to walk, but over the course of a month, or even a week, it adds up quickly. You can double this by simply walking your dog twice a day. Or how about walking to your office, or at least part of the way? You can do this regardless the distance of your home from your workplace. A half an hour walk to work is doable, and if you walk to and from work you’ll be walking for an hour every day. If you ride to work, simply walk to the next bus stop so that you do a bit more walking in the day. It’s not at all difficult to incorporate walking in your daily life.

Walking is excellent for your body and general health. This is because walking is one of the most efficacious aerobic exercises. This means it’s not just good for your heart, but you’ll lose weight also. Walking is ordinarily done at a slow pace, so you won’t be straining your joints too much, unlike running. My brother is extremely lean (but he eats a lot of junk food) and I asked him how he stays thin. He says he’s never truly thought about it, but maybe it’s because he walks quite a bit daily. At least it now adds up. Walking is easy exercise, so you should find no reason to not bother.

Get into the habit of walking everyday since you’ll have a better chance of sticking to it, and with the correct diet, you’ll be able to melt off the flab with no problem. As you start to get used to walking, you’ll observe that you’re decidedly feeling more fit and, because it’s not that hard on you, your motivation will be enhanced also. As you walk more and observe changes, you’ll want to do more or up the intensity of your walks. Why should you hold back, if you want to walk more? Who knows? Maybe you’ll take to walking so quickly that you decide you can bring up the notch a bit by jogging. And you can progress to even more challenging workout regimens, if you choose.
