Whenever you come across or hear of an espresso machine type as super automatic, it means that it does all the job for you. Everything from preparation, cleaning and even crema preparation is done for you without getting your hands dirty. This machine automatically grind coffee beans, tamp it and then extracts all the goodness from the coffee beans and voila, an espresso shot! Bear in mind that you will still need to fill up the water reservoir with water and attach a water line to it. Some espresso machines also come with an automatic dispensing and milk frothing device. This is what makes you the widely popular crema on top. Crema coffee is made using the pressure brewed style. One other reason why a super automatic espresso machine is preferred is that users don’t have to manually grind and tamper the coffee.

Now that we’ve gone through the basic functionalities of an espresso machine, what about the art of making espresso? Well surprise, surprise… some types of super automatic espresso machine allow you to alter the strength of the coffee by controlling the amount of coffee use in every extraction. This features allows you to make stronger or weaker espresso. You can control it to give you single or double shots and of course not forgetting the popular crema on top. Crema coffee is coffee made using the pressure brewed style. One thing to note here is that the tamp pressure is constant. In other words you cannot control the tamp pressure in a super automatic espresso machine.

One disadvantage about this whole espresso making process, is that you cannot control the tamp pressure in a super automatic espresso machine.
Another benefit of owning one of these machines is that it is relatively easy to maintain them. Some of these machines come equipped with their own auto-rinse cycles, decalcification cycles and cleaning cycles. This is perfect for those who are just too lazy to maintain their machines. You can even have the option to inspect the brewing components in some machines but yes this part is not automated.

Once you’ve brewed your espresso, the used grounds are automatically placed into an internal dump pump. Once it gets full, your machine will alert you. Another great feature is that if the water reservoir runs out, it will tell you as well.

Finally, a machine like this might not give you the thrill of making espresso simply because the entire process is automated. If you are not someone who wants to explore the nitty gritty details of operating one, then this machine is probably for you. But if you are aiming to go the barista way, then you should probably save your money for a semi automatic espresso machine.
