The Saliva PH Test

Our brain is in control of the salivary gland that is in turn responsible for the excretion of saliva. The saliva is found in the mouth which helps in the beginning of the digestion of food. Certain enzymes are found in the saliva that helps process the food we consume. Without it there would be no processing of food to take place.

The saliva has many benefits other than helping in the food digestion it also rinses teeth to make it clean and it helps rid mouth of infections and diseases. Saliva can also be used as a sample for getting the body’s pH level. Experts say that the most accurate and definitive test for getting the pH level of the body is through the use of saliva.

Saliva tests also helps in knowing the susceptibility of a person to some types of illnesses like arthritis, cancer, osteoporosis, heart risks and the like.

The tests from saliva was done for over a hundred of years ago, this was done together with urine tests to get the pH level of the body and diagnosis were based upon these tests to determine the pH imbalance of a person. The results of these tests were much relied upon by medical experts to give the right pH scale reading of the sample tests, whether the person may be experiencing high acid, neutral or alkaline. Hospitals and private clinic institutions use this method to give a prognosis to a patient’s chemical imbalance. Information from the pH scale reading will give precautionary steps for someone who may be having chemical imbalance.

And since today’s technology have evolved, doctors suggests that for someone who wants to have a thorough examination they will have to undergo extensive physical evaluation because the saliva and urine tests will not show in its early stages the severity of a certain illness or disease. Although these tests are best for knowing the chemical content of the body they are not conclusive for other types of major diseases.

The saliva is best to get the pH level of one’s body but using this as the only basis to diagnose a patient with other ailments is not the right method to take. A strip of litmus paper which is bought in pharmacy is what patients use to know their pH levels.

The use of saliva for testing the pH is very convenient and easy to perform, anyone can do it. Fill the mouth of saliva that is clean and put it in the pH paper, the saliva placed in the pH paper must be free of food components. And when you do just finished eating, do the test after 2 hours to make sure that the saliva is neutral.

The litmus paper will turn blue indicating that the saliva is alkaline at a pH level of 7.4. Otherwise, you can compare what color the litmus paper turned to a chart provided with the litmus paper. Repeat the procedure if you happen to see that your saliva is acidic.
