Menopause is something that every single woman on the planet is going to experience. It comes with being female. Lots of women do everything they can think of to delay it, but the fact is that, at some point down the road, their bodies will stop having their monthly cycles. Menopause onset can be very traumatic for some, especially those who don’t know what kind of menopause symptoms to check for. We’ve all heard the stereotypical stories about women going through “the change” but what are the real symptoms women should look for? Keep reading to find out!
Losing one’s mental acuity is perhaps the most annoying menopause symptom, especially for the person experiencing it. Many women report difficulty concentrating, feeling disoriented and even often feeling confused. Disturbing lapses in memory have also been reported by many women. Obviously this can be frustrating for you, but it is also frustrating for the other people in your life. It is important that you have patience if a woman in your life is forced to deal with this symptom. You are not nearly as annoyed by this symptom as the woman is.
For a woman wanting to have another child, menopause can be quite traumatic because of the similarity in symptoms between pregnancy and menopause. Fatigue is among the signs of menopause that also occur during pregnancy. When a premenopausal woman experiences fatigue so great that she can’t help but sleep often this is called “crashing” fatigue. I am talking about feeling extremely exhausted at the end of the day. This is the kind of fatigue that might prevent her from being able to get out of bed at all. A woman experiencing this type of fatigue will require more sleep than she’s ever needed before, perhaps during the height of her day. If you witness a woman in your life experiencing severe fatigue symptoms, talk to her about seeing her OB/GYN to determine if menopause is the cause.
Many women will experience anxiety or panic attacks during menopause as a result of changing sense of security. Suicide rates in menopausal women are higher than in those not yet experiencing the change due to overwhelming feelings of dread or impending doom. For some women these sensations become so strong that they get mistaken for panic attacks. If you or one of the women in your life is experiencing these feelings on an increased basis (or without noticeable cause to feel that way) it is possible that she has begun to go through menopause (or will start going through it soon). Remain calm, be as sensitive as you can to what she is experiencing.
Menopause is not a pleasant experience for anyone. Even if you are not going through the change yourself, if someone you love is going through it, you are affected as well. It is a really good idea to familiarize yourself with the symptoms of menopause. This will help you provide the right level of support to the women in your life who experience it. As well as helping you be sympathetic, doing this helps you to know what is going on when women reach certain ages. You could even be able to help the woman in your life figure out what is happening if she becomes sympathetic.
