Children don’t seem to like vegetables, nor fruit either, but especially things like spinach and beans. On the other hand they will eat absolute junk until the cows come home. The good news is that this is a problem that has always existed, and we as youngsters were no different.
As a parent we can get quite angry with our children because we know fresh vegetables are a very important source of minerals and vitamins. We also know they don’t make you fat. The big question remains, and that is what is it that children have against green vegetables?
There is a theory that children don’t like the colour green, because most of the vegetables they won’t touch are green. By that I mean cabbage, peas, broad beans, and spinach. It could be the taste, but they never usually allow you to put a spoon to their mouths, so how can they know?
If your children don’t eat their veggies is it perhaps that we don’t set them a very good example. ask yourself the question, which is do you eat all the vegetables you expect your children to eat? perhaps you leave them off your plate, and your children copy you. They may even hear you say something about you don’t like spinach!!
If blame is sought, then perhaps processed baby food is responsible. We can all remember some pretty awful stuff in jars that we fed babies with some years ago. It was often green and if you ever tasted it, you would agree it was less than palatable. Imagine being a child fed on that, you will then associate anything green with that taste
The best advice I can give, is never allow your child to eat any processed food in a jar. Make it yourself, invest in a blender and grinder, or a complete food processor. Buy or grow fresh vegetables and cook and blend yourself. Disguise the green colour with other foods, and give your baby a healthy start to their life. You will only have to do this two or three times and your child can enjoy the flavours and the goodness of fresh food.
As a final point, much of what our children will and will not eat comes from the good example we set as parents. In other words if you give your child cabbage, spinach or beans, then you’d better be there eating it too with much satisfied smacking of lips.
We also know they don’t make you fat. Mostly they sem to be green, from cabbage to peas, beans, and spinach. baby food processor pigeon Buy or grow fresh vegetables and cook and blend yourself.
