Eating is one of the basic necessities in a household and it is also where people spend their money mostly on buying foods that they love. Of course we eat to nourish our bodies in order to have energy to perform our everyday activities. The real problem is when there is a discrepancy in consuming these foods that would lead to all sorts of health problems.
Eating has been one of the many favorites a lot of people do. Because of the wide array of delicious foods to choose from it is so hard to resist to not eat especially when what is served on the table are the favorite foods you really love. In this case because of the irresistible eating of these foods even when one is not hungry many kinds of disorders related to eating habits are being studied and discovered by food and health experts.
One of the most recent disorders related to eating habits is the binge eating. Binge eating disorder is when one gouge up too much food that even when he or she is full still wants to eat up. This is a habit mostly found in overweight and obese children and adults. To further get into the details of this type of disorder, it is experienced by someone who eats large amounts of food on a regular basis meal after meal. People who have this disorder often feel powerless when they start eating making it harder for them to immediately stop eating large quantities of food and more and more people are being diagnosed of this type of eating disorder which is quite alarming. Compulsive overeating is also referred to as binge eating.
The causes of the binge eating disorder are still unknown but some health experts suggests that people who are emotionally distressed are the targets of this sickness like feeling anxious, bored, depressed and others. Also another observation they have discovered is that individuals with an impulsive behavior and psychologically distressed can also have this type of eating disorder.
Although the binge eating disorder was just recently discovered it has been a top growing problem related to consuming foods. The overweight and obese are not the only ones affected by this eating disorder but also those who weigh normally. Studies also discovered females to be more prone to binge eating rather than males, this is because females are more emotional than males, and they are likely to feel sad, anxious, depressed and restless. Another revealing discovery is that black Americans have higher probability of having the binge eating disorder that white Americans although this fact is still in question.
Some studies also discovered that individuals who have the binge disorder may have difficulty coping with any dieting program and are likely to gain weight immediately after losing couple of pounds. Therefore to treat this kind of disorder there are several methods like the cognitive-behavioral therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy, and certain medications too. The treatment of the disorder may take weeks or months but after it is been treated, one will feel much better about themselves and healthy as well.
