What is the Secret to Weight Loss Success?

Is there a secret to weight loss success? Yes and no. That’s right, yes there is a secret and no it’s not the kind of secret you probably want to hear. There is no magic pill, new diet or special bottled water you can drink that will make you lose weight. There is however a philosophy that most people who lose weight and keep it off have come to understand.

If you live as an overweight person I would hedge a bet that you have been on a diet. Not only have you been on a diet but you’ve probably memorized all of the best points of said diet, categorized the most effective weight loss exercises and keep a “thin” outfit hanging in your closet for motivation. Am I right? And even still the world of thin eludes you and will continue to elude you if you don’t change something, but what?

This is where the secret comes in, the secret that isn’t really a secret. The secret to true, honest to goodness, long lasting weight loss is that it’s all in your head. It’s not in your body or in calories per serving or in your menu plan. Weight loss, like anything, is about 2% physical and the other part, the 98% part, the BIGGEST part, is emotional.

What does this mean exactly? Am I saying that you just need to feel happier to be thinner? Well, yes and no. Of course the physical reality of life is that you must eat healthy and exercise to lose weight, sorry I can’t change that. What I’m saying is that becoming emotionally healthy will lead you to want to be physically healthy. Becoming physically healthy will push you to become emotionally healthy as well. It all goes hand in hand. Your emotional health can stop you or keep you going in the face of any adversity, even a stair climber.

98% of success in life and in weight loss is just showing up. Meeting the challenges of creating a healthy lifestyle is a daily task for those of us who have lived swimming in fat for years. The good news is it doesn’t have to happen overnight and in fact won’t happen overnight if you want it to last. Sorry to have to burst that bubble. You just have to put effort towards a better life every day and voila, you will have a better life. It’s almost like magic.

So the secret to weight loss success is actually the secret to success of any kind. It’s not an elusive, impossible pipe dream. It is a real possibility to lose weight and keep it off. You only have to look inside yourself for the answer.
