Why Being Skinny Isn’t The End All Be All To Health And Fitness

You are constantly bombarded with images of ultra skinny models. Unfortunately, they don’t tell you that these images have been modified and many of these models starve themselves.

To make matters more complicated, you may start to believe that this look is actually healthy.

So here is why being skinny isn’t the end all be all to health and fitness:

1. Fat can be stored around your organs and inside of your arteries: You see, fat doesn’t just get stored under your skin. So you could be really thin, but have a large amount of fat in you arteries. In fact, I have seen many case studies of thin people undergoing heart surgery.

2. Age related lean tissue loss: As people age they naturally begin to lose muscle mass. The good news is that this can be avoided very easily with exercise. In fact, you can increase you lean tissue as you age if you resistance train.

3. Brittle bones: Fractures, especially hip fractures are very common in elderly people. Now a lot of these fractures can be avoided if you have more dense bones. And the best way to boost bone density is with resistance training.

4. Metabolic slow down: Your metabolism will naturally slow down as you age. This is just the way the human body works. However, you can reverse this trend by exercising on a regular basis, especially if you lift weights.

5. Better endocrine function: A skinny person will have a worse endocrine profile versus someone that is constantly exercising. And your endocrine system, which is in charge of producing hormones, will keep you much younger.

6. Joint health: In the absence of sufficient muscle mass your muscles will have to absorb more shock then they have to. You see, a lot of muscle surrounding a joint provides support for it. So don’t assume that being skinny is good for your joints, it’s not.

Being super thin is not the path to health. In fact, muscle mass can literally save your life in the long run! So take action here!
