Nine times out of ten, you will better off saving your money instead of buying supplements. Only a very small percentage of dietary supplements actually work.
Even worse, in some cases supplements can actually decrease your health.
So here is why supplements can make your body worse off:
1. There is a lack of regulation: Supplements are poorly regulated in the United States. In fact, almost anybody can bottle anything and begin selling it as a dietary supplement. Because of the loose regulations, anybody can do this.
2. Some are insanely expensive: More often than not you will better off saving your money and spending it on food. You see, if a supplement has a lot of hype and marketing surrounding it, companies will charge a premium for it.
3. Some will damage your health: Vitamin D, for example, has become very popular. But if you take vitamin D in large doses, it can calcify your blood vessels. So never assume a supplement is safe just because it is popular.
4. Food does have nutrition: Despite all the claims and scare tactics, food does have nutrients in it. You do not need super concentrated doses of vitamins to get your total nutrition in place. In fact, you can do just fine with regular food.
5. Meal replacements are not good for weight loss: Any type of nutrition in powder form will digest faster than regular food. Thus, you are best off eating solid food if you want to optimize weight loss. This is the way to healthy weight loss.
6. They can lead to disappointment: The unrealistic expectations supplements give you can set you up for major disappointment which in turn can de-motivate you. So don’t expect miracles if you do decide to take a supplement.
You are usually going to be far better off saving your money instead of buying supplements. You see, supplements do not live up to their hype!
