All over the world people suffer from all kinds of food allergies. From milk to shellfish, people who are allergic have to carefully examine what they eat because getting an allergic reaction could prove life-threatening. A new study has revealed, however, that some people who believe they are allergic actually do not have a food allergy at all.
Those who were earlier reported to have experienced allergic reaction are diagnosed differently. This inconsistency stems from self-medication of some symptoms of allergy and from wrong readings of laboratory results by health practitioners.
Wrong interpretation of allergy is a big issue in the present time. In fact, experts emphasize that a result of one allergy test is not enough to conclude that he/she is truly an allergic person.
Example, a child might show a positive result to an allergy test but this does not automatically mean they are allergic. More tests must be performed to confirm it.
Currently, there is no standard for identifying true food-allergy. This has been a contribution to the problem of perceived food allergies. Health care experts are hoping that standard guidelines will be developed which will define how to diagnose and treat food allergies.
Because of the belief that one is allergic to certain foods, one has just to avoid eating them in order not to harm oneself. Nonetheless, this gives anxiety and stress to the person therefore, still giving a negative effect to him/her.
To strict and choosy on the food among real and perceived food allergy sufferers will lead to malnutrition.
For those who have been said to have food allergies, before you take another pill for your allergies, make sure you visit your allergist to confirm the allergy.
