When we start on a weight loss program or routine, we want to transform ourselves and become a healthier, fitter, and more attractive person. Nothing can be a worse feeling that losing a lot of fat only to be left with flab – those loose rolls of sagging skin. Let’s take a look at some tips you can use for getting rid of flab.
If your recent weight loss was fairly rapid, you need to understand that there’s a good chance that at least some of the weight you lost was muscle mass. This is not the situation you wanted to be in. It’s possible that your body fat percentage is still quite high, even if you’ve achieved your weight loss goal.
If you’ve reached your target weight but still have a good amount of flab, keep in mind that a pound of muscle occupies far less space than a pound of fat, and that your flab is probably caused by excess body fat.
You Are What You Eat
Your nutritional intake while losing weight of monumentally important. Your diet should be based largely on fruits and vegetables. These are full of vitamins and fiber which help keep your skin and also aid your body in getting rid of toxins (which will restore elasticity).
Also you want to avoid eating fake “health foods.” They’re advertised as being good for you, but the advertising is a lie. Look over the nutrition label on the side of the package. If a package of “health food” has things like sugar and high fructose corn syrup among the first 5 ingredients, you shouldn’t be eating it, because those things are essentially toxic to someone trying to get fit.
Your diet should also include drinking a great deal of water, with with and between meals. Water is great for washing the toxins out of your body. Without sufficient water, your body will become dehydrated. This makes your body think that it*s going through a famine or living in the desert, and it goes into “starvation mode.” A body in starvation mode will burn muscle cells for energy, because they take more energy to maintain, and will store as much fat as possible. Paradoxically, then, someone trying to get rid of flab but not drinking enough water, might actually be promoting the destruction of muscle cells and the accumulation of more fat cells! That’s why you should brink your eight glasses of water daily.
You can Get Rid of that Flab with Exercise – Here we go again!
Now, if you still have too much body fat, you’ll need to exercise and build muscle for getting rid of flab. Dieting your way out of flab isn’t really a viable option.
There’s only one way to get rid of excess fat – burn more calories than you consume. One of the best ways to do this is to exercise. You also want to gain some lean muscle on your body as well. As you build muscle, it will burn fat deposits off your body, reducing the appearance of the flab. Your body’s appearance will be enhanced as you exercise and tone your new muscles. Change your exercises around often so that your body doesn’t get accustomed to them (plateau.) More important, though, is to develop a plan of exercise that you’ll actually follow. You know whether your exercise routine is realistic or not – so if 4 or 5 days a week is unrealistic for you, don’t set up an exercise plan for 4 or 5 days a week. If twice a week is more realistic, then do that.
Thus, the keys to getting rid of unsightly flab are to eat a healthy diet and exercise. If you still have sagging skin, you’ll generally need to exercise the area to restore muscle tone.
