It is not natural to feel tired all the time, even if you are over fifty. Fortunately with the internet you can do a great deal of research and get feedback from people who are experiencing the same symptoms. In my experience most chronic fatigue symptoms end up being related to nutrition. Unfortunately, this puts you in a position of doing self diagnosis since most medical doctors are fairly ignorant when it comes to nutrition.
Dr. George Sheehan in one of his books on running made a statement that applies to this situation. Dr. Sheehan said that we are all “an experiment of one”. What this means is that, while you research your condition and listen to what others say works for them, you should balance all that information against what your body tells is working for you.
For example, if a doctor or other people tell you a certain approach is worthless, but you have a very consistent positive reaction, you may want to overrule all the other information you have with what your body is telling you. The only thing to be cautious of is to make sure you are not showing improvement due to mentally wanting an approach to work. Sometimes people feel better just because they believe a treatment is good, even when the treatment is doing nothing.
So start doing internet research and find people who are going through the same thing you are. Before you start a note of caution: there are a lot of companies that want you to believe there is some magic pill or product that will make it all better. You can forget about all those types of information and instead focus on solutions that are based on modifying what you eat.
What you are looking for is nutrition based solutions that make sense and won’t cause further damage to your health. These solutions should fully explain how they work and be understandable. Once you find a few potential solutions, you can do further research on each of the methods and find people who have used these techniques.
To get you started, here are some things I found when I did my research. Initially I found there was a great deal of information on something called candida, which is a yeast overgrowth based in the intestines. Candida can often cause chronic tiredness and many diets were suggested to help get rid of it. I do not recommend most of these diets as they seem geared to more extreme cases and are really hard to adhere to. A very good alternative diet I found is known as the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, by Elaine Gottschall. Even though this diet was formulated to treat much more serious intestinal disorders, I found that it was much simpler to follow, made nutritional sense, and helped with my tiredness quite a bit.
When I continuing my research I found that my problem was caused by a condition called Celiac Disease. This illness is due to an intolerance to gluten, a component of wheat and other flours. I further researched celiac and found what dietary changes I needed to make and tried them. The only word I can use for the results is dramatic! Within just two days, I knew I had discovered the solution to my problem! Now I wake up in the morning fresh and don’t need constant naps! Plus I have more energy than I have had in at least twenty years!
So the message of this article is this: don’t settle for your current condition. Instead take charge and do something to improve your own health. Don’t wait for a doctor to figure it out what the problem is. The more educated you are about your condition the better. Use the internet and find others with your problem. Keep up your research and you may eventually find what will help you cure your condition, or at least make it much better!
