When you are a teenager having braces is something most really try to avoid and dread. The look and inconvenience of having to wear them is not usually in keeping with the typical teenage lifestyle, but they do straighten your teeth and those that did have them will often have the last laugh in later life as their teeth will be straight. If you find yourself now thinking you wish you had pushed to have braces when you were younger there’s no need to worry as there are plenty of solutions available for adults.
One of the big things that puts adults off having braces is the look of them, so it will no doubt be seen as a positive by many that there are treatments available that involve braces that are practically invisible. The type of brace available does of course come down to what treatment you need and the condition of your teeth, but it pays to know what’s out there.
If you are conscious of others seeing you wearing braces, then one option to try is lingual braces. Lingual braces are similar to the more traditional metal braces in that they use wire to straighten the teeth, the big difference however, are that lingual braces are fitted behind the teeth and are completely out of sight. If your teeth are in good condition but misaligned, lingual braces could be the solution for you.
One of the most effective forms of teeth straightening utilises clear plastic aligners as opposed to metal. This means that they are hard to spot (they are practically invisible) and as a result are very popular amongst adults, as well as movie and pop stars. Each set of aligners is custom made to specifically focus on the individual patients needs and so they are a very effective form of treatment and have shorter treatment times.
Traditional metal braces are still available and it is best to take advice from your own dentist to discuss what treatment will work best for your teeth. Don’t be afraid to ask your dentist about the different options and make sure you choose a solution that will work best for you and your smile.
Hampstead Orthodontic Practice offer treatments that include invisible braces and lingual braces.
