If you didn’t know, there are chemicals that can leech out of plastic right in to your food. These chemicals are found not only in plastic bottles but also in a baby bottle. Research has shown that these same chemicals can come out of the plastic when warmed up in the microwave.
Some jars of food contain linings made of plastic that may also contain these chemicals. We use plastic in most things these days so it becomes difficult to avoid it. PVC and BPA are two potentially dangerous chemicals I want to talk about.
Pregnant women should always avoid canned foods and any types of plastic that might susceptible to leeching chemicals. They can not only harm the mother but they can be devastating to an unborn child.
The recycle triangle is one way to identify harmful chemicals in plastics. They always come with a specific number so you can identify if it’s safe for food consumption or not. These symbols are usually found on food safe and plastic that is not so friendly.
But knowing what the numbers are is an important step. After locating the triangle you will notice a number floating in the middle of it. Number 1 is usually inherent of being free of BPA and safe to use. Number 2 is usually found on children’s toys which makes it okay to play with. Number 5 if often found with milk bags and cold food items. And a number 7 is given to a lot of plastics because there are many other classes of plastics but the government wasn’t able to spend time to give them each an individual number.
Now you have a better idea of what to look for and prevent harm to an unborn baby. Taking small steps like using glass instead of plastic is just one of many ways to prevent complications.
