Rent some workout DVDs and try to apply them inside your living room. There are a lot of DVDs you can rent that allow you to build on those muscles at the privacy of your own home. If you have a limited budget then this is the best alternative to hitting the gym.
Jumping rope is another alternative method to keeping you fit. Jumping rope is a good cardio exercise. It burns a lot of calories and it keeps the heart healthy. You can do this at any time of the day and at any place inside your home. The only restriction to this is that you will need to move a large place where you can have enough space.
If you want a more outdoor approach, you can try jogging with your friends around the neighborhood or at the local park. This way, you get to hang out with your friends while staying fit at the same time.
You can do push-ups and sit-ups right at the comfort of your own home. All you need is a mat you can lie on and do the activity all by yourself. You can have the freedom to increase your workload or decrease them.
One of the simplest way to workout is to go up and down the stairs. You do not need any heavy equipment to help you work your muscles. Let your body and your gravity be your weight. All you need to do is to work it out with the stairs until you have sweat it all out.
Plus, you can do this while watching TV, talk to your friend over the phone, or listen to music.
