When was the last time that you really enjoyed a meal or have variety of choices in front of you and not feel guilty of the entire calorie intake that you get? Did you remember the time where you can choose from different kinds of foods left in the refrigerator from crunchy vegetables, yummy cakes to soft creamy ice creams? But those are things in the past now, foods tend to fly out of our mind as we grow older either were too busy with work or on a diet.
Adults are sometimes driven crazy by the eating habits of their children but kids don’t mean to do it just to annoy or make your life miserable. Kids have different preferences in food than adults do. But adults may get ideas from kids on how to eat right, be happy and healthy at the same time.
Kids are naturally curious in everything around them specially food. They want to know where it come from, how it was made, what compose the food that is serve to them, how to make it delicious, why do it has so many colors and so on. Questions never stop to pop out of their mind. They want to know how everything is done so they may do it in experimental basis.
Kids like to do stuff on their own, just like adults, try letting them do a salad or sandwich on their own and you will be surprised that they have selected foods that are reasonably healthy good for their diet. Their food choices are influenced by family, friends and large proportion by the media. But kids have a way of balancing their diet that adults have find so hard to do.
Adults have hard time getting a balance diet as well as eat right on time. They have so many reasons in avoiding food or they don’t care what type of foods they stuff into their mouths. Adults always think kids don’t eat a balance meal but they haven’t considered that they also have never ventured in healthy foods in a long time.
Kids are a copy of adults but they haven’t considered that adults can also copy some of kid’s habits in terms of eating. Here are few things to think about on how your kids eat:
* Kids eat what they like – if you are eating what you like is not the same as eating what you want. Eating should always be pleasurable whatever age you are in and whatever food you are eating. Kids are more focus on what they want and adults should too. With over thousands of food choices available it’s very easy to create a diet that is both healthy and delicious.
* Another thing that kids do is eat when they are hungry and stop when they are full. They respond to the biological signal that drives them to eat unless they have the urge to keep eating but they can easily regulate their calorie intake by playing everyday. Adults tend to ignore these signals from our body maybe they are too busy to eat or on a diet but often this will lead to over eating later on. Adults have a hard time responding to body’s signal when it says that it is low on fuel or to stop eating when we already feel comfortable and so full. We all know that kids do this. They tell us when they are hungry and when they have enough.
* Kids like to eat foods that look beautiful in their eyes. Children just love colorful foods and that is the main reasons why items that are manufactured for children are very colorful from clothes, toys and food. Huge array of this foods are full of artificial coloring. Adults can use different kinds of brightly colored fruits and vegetables that may appeal to kids and these colored varieties are full of anti-oxidants, vitamins and minerals. These nutrients are needed to promote health.
* When you give kids some vegetables, they would prefer crunchy ones like raw carrots, and broccoli than soft vegetables and mushy ones. Adults must notice that a vegetable that are eaten raw or slightly steam and are slightly tender retains more vitamins than vegetables that are over cooked. Kids also like to eat foods that they have prepared themselves.
* Kids are fuzzy eaters and adults are sometimes like that too. In order to get food into their mouth let them help in the kitchen and this will also serve as your bonding time with your kids. For adults, home cooking means they can control what goes into the pot the how much portions and sizes goes with it too.
* Believe it or not kids also want to try new foods just like any adults. They might be hesitating at first but with repeated try on new foods, they will learn to like it. Adults are also like this, they tend to relay on foods that they have accustomed to eat in regardless on the effects they might give to the body.
* Try new fruits and vegetables on a regular basis as a family. Peak a variety and put it in the table as part of everyday diet.
Eating like a kid does not mean you have to play with your foods or make funny faces during time. It all means copy what kids are doing to make them healthy in a natural way. Eat natural foods, follow the biological signs your body is telling you and always be happy and satisfied of what you are eating.
