Stress is definitely a culprit in overeating and creating a difficult situation to manage natural weight loss and health. Several studies also confirm that stress is linked to overeating and obesity. That being said, there are things we can do to avoid stress and help reduce and eliminate it from our lives, which will also help ease any stress around trying to lose weight.
An important factor to eliminate stress from our lives is to be able to recognize triggers that create stress in your life. By identifying these triggers early enough, you’ll reduce the impact of any stress on your body, and hopefully, with time, you’ll be aware enough to avoid stress all together!
Some common triggers of stress to watch for, avoid, and eliminate from your life to help you achieve weight loss more easily are listed below.
Feeling overwhelmed at work. Studies have shown that the workplace is often a contributor to stress in an individual’s life. Whether it be from overwork, lack of pay, etc., it’s important to notice when you’re feeling overwhelmed at work. This feeling is definitely a sign that stress is piling up and about to make an impact on your body, so be mindful and take a breather during work, even if for five minutes, to settle your mind and body.
Fighting. Arguing or constant bickering amongst you and your family, friends or coworkers can definitely take its toll on your stress meter, so be aware and try to handle conflict in a positive manner. When negative feelings or emotions are hanging over you, it’s an environment that can bread stress in your life.
Waiting until the last minute to get things done. If you’re the type that likes to procrastinate, then you likely find yourself feeling rushed at the last minute to complete a task. And most likely, on top of wanting to complete it on time, you have the pressure of doing a good job because e you’ve waited until the last minute. Prioritizing and better time management are keys to helping you minimize stress in your life.
Setting unrealistic goals. This is common, especially when trying to lose weight. You think things should happen overnight and that weight should slide ride off, but the reality is, it takes time, so set realistic and reachable goals so you can reward yourself for a job well done vs. put yourself down and stress out when you don’t reach your goals that weren’t realistic in the first place (if you’re honest with yourself).
By identifying and being aware of the stress triggers in your life, like the ones listed here, you’ll be in a good position to help eliminate and avoid stress from your life so you can more easily reach your weight loss goals on your path to natural weight loss.
