You’re not alone – acne is a skin problem affecting most people. People 12 to 24 years old are the ones normally affected by acne, and it is so widespread that it has affected 85% of the population. However, about 40% of those affected with acne has severe inflammations, making it necessary to see a doctor.
No one is safe from acne. It doesn’t matter what nationality or gender you have, if you’re a teenager or an adult, you’re still liable to have acne.
Location
What characterizes this prevalent skin disease are breakouts or lesions on the skin. These breakouts take various forms, from whiteheads to blackheads to cysts caused by clogged pores.
The area most vulnerable to pimples is the T-zone of the face – our nose, chin and forehead. Other parts of the body where pimples appear are the shoulders, neck, chest and back – but the back is more prone to acne next to the face.
Timing
Most people start experiencing acne during their teens, a time when our body begins to produce a large amount of sebum, an oily substance found on the skin. The stuff that keeps our hair and skin from drying out is called the sebum. Unfortunately, we produce too much of it during puberty. Oily skin brought about by clogged pores is the usual result of this overabundance.
Too much follicle cells is also another problem we encounter during our teenage years. The formation of whiteheads is usually the result when dead skin cells and sebum combine together. When sebum and dead cells remain on the skin, it makes it prone to bacteria resulting in red, swollen pimples.
A Bad Image
Acne makes a lot of people feel unattractive because of their skin condition. Lack of self-confidence and depression are the usual result of this skin condition, and teenagers are the ones more likely affected. Because of this problem, some individuals become reclusive while other becomes filled with anger and pain.
Fortunately, acne usually clears up when we reach our twenties. However, a few people tend to suffer from it for a long time.
Treatable
A lot of new and advanced medical treatments are now being used to treat acne. To make sure that you don’t suffer from acne, keep your skin free constantly clean and from excess oil. You would need would need to religiously clean your face with soap and water at least twice a day, or whenever you perspire heavily. There are over-the-counter products available, or you can go to your dermatologist for products that need a prescription.
On the other hand, it may take more than mere application of medicine if you have a serious case of acne; doctors may advise that you change your lifestyle and have a nutrition plan in place.
