Consider Waxing As A Method Of Hair Removal

Hair removal is a time-consuming, messy chore that many women and men endure for the sake of appearance or propriety. Whatever your reasons for removing body hair, you have probably tried shaving, with the unsightly nicks and cuts, only to have to go through it all again in a few days. You may have tried hair removal creams – ineffective, smelly, messy and time consuming. Shaving or using creams in winter, especially on your legs, is a cold, shivery experience not to be repeated if at all possible. Instead, you should consider waxing as a method of hair removal.

Waxing can be performed on legs, underarms, bikini area as well on facial hair and other areas. Some men may wax their chests and back. There are a number of advantages to going to a salon for a wax. Waxing slows hair re-growth and makes the hair grow back finer and lighter, unlike shaving where re-growth is thicker and darker with each shave. A wax will last 3 to 6 weeks, and eventually some hair does not grow back at all. Due to the nature of the process, waxing removes dead skin cells, acting almost as an exfoliant leaving your skin smoother as well.

When you make your waxing appointment, you will need to let the salon know exactly what you want done. Bikini waxes have developed into fashion trends in recent years, with the usual side and inner thigh trim being replaced with various different types of waxes. A Brazilian wax can mean complete removal of all hair, or removal of all hair except for a central ‘landing strip’. A Californian or Hollywood bikini wax removes all hair from the area. Make sure your technician has the same definition for these as you do, or you may come home a lot ‘balder’ than you thought you would! Leg waxes are usually half, or full leg waxes. Facial hair can be removed from the upper lip, eyebrows, chin and cheeks with waxing.

Bear in mind that you will have to remove some clothing, depending on the area you are having waxed. Most salons will provide you with a paper thing to replace underwear, and a sheet or blanket to cover yourself with until the technician arrives. You lie on a nice comfortable salon bed, and the technician starts the process. Remember that the technician has worked on people in various states of undress and different shapes and sizes, so you really have nothing to be embarrassed about. The technician will apply the wax in strips, apply a cloth firmly onto the wax, and once it is cooled, pull it off in the opposite direction to the hair growth. Don’t be alarmed when the technician places her hand firmly onto the area that has just been waxed – it helps to relieve the stinging. After the waxing is done, they will apply a soothing lotion to the area.

Waxing can be painful, but the pain does seem to get better the more often you go to the salon for waxing. Immediately after the waxing, your skin will be a bit red, especially the hair follicles, but this dies down in an hour or two. Because of the long-lasting effect, and the fact that some of the hair does not grow back, waxing remains an extremely popular method of hair removal. Depending on how quickly your hair grows, and because the hair needs to be at least inch in length for waxing, you may not need to return for 3 to 6 weeks.

Although waxing can be done at home, it is far better to go to a salon. No mess, no fuss, and no tying yourself in knots trying to reach all the areas you want waxed. Waxing as a method of hair removal is best done by professionals in a salon.
