Dieting if you are single can be a lot easier because the change in shopping requirements and the change in what you eat only affects you. When you have a partner and/or kids then suddenly you have other people who are usually very reluctant to go on a diet and that means you need to start doing two separate lots of shopping and even cooking two entirely different meals, which makes things a lot harder.
The worst thing about being on a diet is that you have to live on celery while everyone around you enjoys his or her cakes and chips. If your partner is not on a diet with you, it will make things for you so much more difficult. It does become easier if your partner is on the diet journey with you, which is a plus point in your favor.
If they either need to lose weight themselves or even just agree to go on the diet with you for a period of time, then suddenly you have someone in your corner, someone to share the experience with, help with the cooking and give you some good old moral support. Children will not easily accept the new healthy eating habits within the household, but at least now you know it is only their small meals that you have to cook separately and not your partner’s as well.
You will surely have a hard time getting your partner to join you on this diet. The choice to go on a diet is yours so you cannot expect someone else to give up the food him or her likes for something horrible just because you want them to. All that you can really do is to have a good chat with them and tell them that you do not feel part of the family by having to cook separate meals and eating by yourself.
Hopefully they will see your way, tell them they don’t need to do the full diet, just enjoy the evening meal with you and preferably not pig out on unhealthy food in front of you either. If they still aren’t interested then it is time to resort to shameful bribery. You can do your bribery in the form of telling them that they can get the food they desire on weekends or even those electrical equipments they wish for so badly but only if you reach one of your weight goal targets.
If even that doesn’t work though then don’t give up, keeping your weight under control is vitally important if you want to stay healthy. Plus you will look and feel great once you get down to your target weight, and then your partner will probably feel really guilty and want to go on a diet themselves too!
