Eating out should be a delightful experience even when you are on a diet. It should not be an experience that would plague you with guilt feelings afterwards. It is just a matter of knowing what food to choose and what to avoid.
Menus on restaurants were really designed to present food in pictures that stimulates one’s appetite. This is what you should avoid looking at-the menu pictures. Interestingly, the food in the pictures does not really come out that wonderful looking too. It is best to focus your mind on the food listings instead.
Another thing to avoid when looking over the menu is getting swayed by delectable sounding food names on the list. Again, these names can conjure up images in you that will start off your cravings of food that you have been avoiding.
A typical example would be “World’s Best Chocolate Cake”. Definitely, you would expect this delicacy to be delicious as suggested by its name. When the truth is, it is just an ordinary cake topped with calories. Therefore, it is wise to stick to the food description instead.
There are restaurants that have a different set of menu to cater their patrons who are on diet. This makes it easier for them to give their preferences without feeling guilty. Psychological studies found that it is a bad idea to mix the healthy food choices with the unhealthy ones because a person’s natural tendency would be to choose those that they should avoid.
Sadly, there are restaurants that trick their customer’s into thinking that the food they serve are healthy because of the various pictures of vegetables showed.
Not all vegetables are healthy especially when they are cooked fried or coated with unhealthy ingredients. The best would still be eating baked, steamed or sauted vegetables.
Finally, when eating out you should avoid trying out food samples. Although it can be considered harmless but once it gets out of hand, your calories will shoot up without you noticing it.
Knowing what to avoid can make dining out an enjoyable experience without guilt feelings.
